Manchester United have expressed an interest in signing Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix on a short-term loan, according to The Athletic.
The Red Devils are looking to sign a new striker during the winter transfer window and the hierarchy are prioritising a loan agreement.
Felix is one of those who has been regularly linked with the club and it is now reported that United have expressed an interest in signing him.
Premier League rivals Arsenal are also keen on landing the Portuguese star, but the major stumbling block lies with Atletico’s demands for Felix.
Atletico want a staggering €15 million for a six-month loan. The interested club would also have to cover the player’s half-yearly wages of €6m.
Neither United nor Arsenal are likely to meet those demands at the moment. It is said that Atletico must lower the price for a deal to materialise.
United must take the risk with Felix
Felix has had a difficult season at Atletico due to the lack of regular playing time. However, his form has been impressive either side of the World Cup break.
The 23-year-old scored three goals in two outings for his club before the interval. On his return, he found the back of the net against Elche in a 2-0 win.
Felix was also impressive for Portugal at the World Cup and he would be a top signing for the Red Devils even if he is only available on loan at the moment.
Atletico are currently demanding a high package of €21m for Felix but United will be hoping to negotiate and lower the overall value to around €15m.
If they are unsuccessful, the hierarchy should still go ahead and secure his services, having saved €18m in wages after Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent release.
