Man Utd have entered race to sign Belgian winger with 31 goal contributions

Manchester United have joined Chelsea in the race to sign Belgian winger Mika Godts from Ajax, according to journalist Dylan McBennett.

The Red Devils are poised to make several changes to the squad this summer. The holding midfield department should be the prime priority, with Casemiro set to leave on a free transfer.

A left winger could also be pursued to compete with Matheus Cunha, and reports claim that the Red Devils are interested in Ajax star Godts.

The interest is in the early stages, and United could face competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea, among others, for the 20-year-old.

Godts would be a good understudy behind Cunha

The left winger has had a stupendous season with Ajax despite them languishing in fifth in the Eredivisie.

He has notched up 17 goals and 14 assists from 42 appearances across all competitions. He has the knack of scoring from outside the box and has done so on four occasions this campaign.

Godts has also dazzled with an average of three dribbles per game. He also possesses an excellent work rate over 90 minutes and has won five duels per outing with almost four recoveries.

His strengths are quite similar to those of RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, who has also been linked with United. Diomande has an edge when it comes to dribbling. The duo are similar in other aspects.

Ajax have not set an asking price for the talented winger, but they are poised to make a huge profit, having signed him for just £1 million from Genk with a future sell-on clause three years ago.

The Dutch giants have already missed out on Champions League and Europa League qualification, and will have to go through play-offs to secure a berth in the Conference League next term.

The need to offset financial losses could pave the way for Godts’ exit. We believe a package of around £35-40 million, including add-ons, could be sufficient to secure the Belgian’s services.
