Manchester United have been handed a boost in their striker pursuit with Borussia Monchengladbach prepared to sell Marcus Thuram for €12 million in January.
The France international has had a superb season with the Bundesliga outfit, registering 13 goals and four assists from just 17 appearances across all competitions.
The 25-year-old is currently with his country at the World Cup and there are claims that he could be starting ahead of Olivier Giroud in Sunday’s final against Argentina.
Amidst this, Sport Bild report that Monchengladbach are open to selling him for €12m this winter rather than losing him on a free transfer when his contract expires in June.
Man Utd handed big boost in signing Ronaldo’s replacement
The Red Devils recently parted ways with Cristiano Ronaldo by mutual consent. This has left a void in the striking department that must be filled before the end of January.
Thuram has already been linked with the club this season and in our view, he could be a fantastic signing for manager Erik ten Hag with his ability to play in multiple roles.
The Frenchman has played exclusively as a centre-forward for Monchengladbach this season, but he is also comfortable operating from the left side of the attack.
Aside from his versatility, he has a strong physical presence with good hold-up play. While he is gifted with impressive finishing skills, he can also make key passes.
These are attributes that Ten Hag prefers in his main striker. In our opinion, United should land the services of Thuram regardless of their ongoing pursuit in Cody Gakpo.
At €12m, he can be considered as a huge bargain in the current transfer market. United must move fast to secure his signature before Arsenal and Chelsea enter the race.
