Man Utd have an eye on Barcelona B defender Mikayil Faye, Lens have made first bid

Manchester United hold an interest in signing Barcelona defender Mikayil Faye during the summer transfer window, according to Sport (today’s edition).

The Red Devils are likely to bolster the central defensive department in the next transfer window and they have been linked with marquee names such as Gleison Bremer.

However, the club are also looking into emerging talents for the future. Boca Juniors wonderkid Aaron Anselmino is currently one of those on their transfer radar.

In today’s edition of Sport, it is revealed that Lens have already made an opening bid of €9 million for Faye, who currently plays for the reserve team of Barcelona.

The proposal has been turned down by the Blaugrana, but the Ligue 1 outfit are prepared to raise their value as they are determined to sign the Senegal international.

However, they are not alone in the transfer pursuit. Sport claim that there are ‘siren’ chants coming ‘from Old Trafford’, who are looking for centre-backs in the transfer market.

United could make approach for Faye

The 19-year-old joined Barcelona from Croatian side Kustosija for €1.5m last summer. He has already made 24 appearances for the reserve team, scoring three goals.

The centre-back has been praised for his defensive aggressiveness, but his discipline still needs to improve. He has picked up two red cards for Barcelona B this term.

The teenager made the Barcelona bench against Mallorca earlier this month, but we believe the Catalan outfit will sell him for the right price amid their financial problems.

Faye, who recently scored on his international debut against Gabon, is a left-footed central defender. He also has the ability to operate from the left-back position.

The Red Devils could see him as one for the future. The club are currently lacking a second left-footed centre-back. Faye could act as a deputy for Lisandro Martinez.

There is also the possibility that they could send him on loan to gain more experience. United have their sights on doing the same with Anselmino if they manage to sign him.
