Manchester United have been handed a huge boost in signing Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong following an update from the Bild.
The Red Devils have identified Frimpong as their top target to bolster the right-back department and talks have already been held with his representative.
Fabrizio Romano recently claimed that Bayern Munich are also in contention to land the Dutchman but this story has been dismissed in today’s update.
Bild reveal that the German champions have not made any sort of contact with the player’s camp and he is not under consideration for a summer transfer.
Meanwhile, United have been interested in the player ‘for months’. It is claimed that Frimpong should ‘clearly tend towards’ returning to Manchester this summer.
The 22-year-old was brought by his parents to Manchester as a seven-year old. He spent nine years in Manchester City’s academy (2010-2019) before moving on.
Frimpong would be a perfect fit for Erik ten Hag
Ten Hag recently spoke about the qualities of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot. He highlighted that one is more defensive while the other is more offensive.
If United were to sign Frimpong, he would be an upgrade on the duo. The Dutchman has registered a stunning tally of eight goals and nine assists from 36 games this term.
Meanwhile, he has also been impressive defensively with 1.7 tackles and 6.7 duels won per game. In our view, he would be a perfect fit for the right-back position at United.
Frimpong has played over 60 per cent of his games at Leverkusen from right wing-back this season but it is probably a good thing as Ten Hag prefers overlapping full-backs.
United may have to pay close to €50 million to prise away the exciting young defender.
