Man Utd handed boost in signing Giovanni Di Lorenzo, right-back wants to leave Napoli

Manchester United have been handed a boost in signing Napoli right-back Giovanni Di Lorenzo.

The Red Devils currently have Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka as their right-back options, but the latter could head for the exit door this summer.

Wan-Bissaka’s contract expires in June next year and the club have yet to negotiate a renewal. He appears likely to be offloaded at the end of the campaign.

With their tight financial situation, the Red Devils are unlikely to spend big on a back-up right-back.

The club reportedly made contact with Di Lorenzo’s camp last month and they have now received a boost with the 30-year-old eyeing a new challenge.

The Italian star believes he has come to the end of the cycle with Napoli and he has communicated that he ‘wants to leave‘ the Serie A side this summer.

Di Lorenzo would provide good competition

Di Lorenzo has been one of Italy’s best right-backs over the past five years. He has caught the eye with his quality distribution and good positioning.

This season, he has completed 87 per cent of his passes with a long ball accuracy of 70 per cent. He has won 1.5 tackles per game alongside four recoveries.

The Italian has also been effective in the final third with 10 goal contributions from 46 appearances.

Di Lorenzo has made the most progressive passes (294) in the Italian top-flight this term.

He is currently valued at £15 million by Transfermarkt, but United could secure his signature for much less, considering he will turn 31 in August.

Despite his age, Di Lorenzo would be a good stop-gap signing. United need to prioritise other key positions too with a limited transfer budget.
