Man Utd handed boost as Benfica open door to Antonio Silva sale

Manchester United have been handed a boost in signing Benfica defender Antonio Silva ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils have closely followed the progress of the Portuguese star and he is one of their top centre-back targets.

Silva currently has a release clause worth €100 million in his contract, but United could prise him away for less later this year.

According to Record (page 8), Benfica are prepared to part ways with Silva as they look to balance their books this summer.

United handed big boost in landing Silva

Benfica have looked at one big-money sale at the end of each season, and we could see another repeat.

Darwin Nunez left for Liverpool during the summer of 2022 while Goncalo Ramos made the switch to Paris Saint-Germain last year.

Ramos had a €100m buy-out clause, but Benfica eventually accepted a loan with an obligation to buy for €80m that has been triggered.

Silva appears the next in line to leave. In our view, United could prise him away for €70-80m with Benfica open to negotiating his exit.

The 20-year-old appears a no-brainer signing for the Red Devils. He has completed a stunning 93 per cent of his passes this term.

The Portuguese has also won 67 per cent of his duels alongside 2.4 tackles per game.

He has likewise made 6.2 ball recoveries and 3.4 clearances on average in the Primeira Liga.

This statistics are very impressive for a 20-year-old. United must be pro-active to avoid missing out on his signature to a European rival.

He is represented by Jorge Mendes. The Red Devils should utilise their good relationship with the super-agent to get ahead in the race.
