Manchester United have been handed a boost in signing Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners during this summer’s transfer window.
The Netherlands international is one of the best midfielders in the Italian top-flight and he has been impressive with his defensive and offensive contributions.
United recently sent scouts to monitor his performance against Juventus where he scored a brace and they have now been handed an excellent chance to sign him.
In an exclusive interview with De Telegraaf today, Koopmeiners has confirmed that he wants to move from Atalanta this summer and has already informed the same.
The midfielder added that he is having a great time in Italy, but could bear the rainy weather for some clubs in England. He is well aware of the reported transfer interest.
He said: “Last year there was concrete interest from Napoli. However, in the end, the two clubs did not find an agreement. I told Atalanta that in the coming summer, I want to move.”
“But something really interesting must present itself to leave Bergamo. My fiance and I are having a great time in Italy, but for some clubs in England, I could even bear the rainy days there.
“I hope options present themselves so I can think about it. I hope Atalanta gets a good fee for me because I have had a wonderful time in Bergamo.
“I would be lying if I said I didn’t hear the news about the interest from Juventus and Premier League clubs have shown to me.”
United should consider move for Koopmeiners
The Red Devils could have a busy summer transfer window. Christian Eriksen looks likely to leave amid his lack of regular playing time over the course of the season.
Meanwhile, Sofyan Amrabat will also depart after an unsuccessful loan spell from Fiorentina. United are also looking at a replacement for Casemiro in the squad.
It has been reported today that Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Joao Gomes has been identified as a top target to replace the Brazil international during the summer.
In our view, the club could invest on two new midfielders. Koopmeiners should be considered by the club, considering his ability to play in multiple midfield positions.
The Dutchman started off as a defensive midfielder at AZ Alkmaar, but he has generally operated from the central and attacking midfield roles since his move to Atalanta.
His high pressing and positioning are his main strengths. He has also contributed 12 goals and four assists from 34 appearances for the Bergamo outfit this term.
Atalanta currently value him in the region of €60 million. United should not expect any discount, considering they turned down €48m from Napoli last summer.
There will be plenty of competition for his signature. Juventus are keen admirers alongside Napoli while Liverpool have also been persistently linked with his services.
