Manchester United return to Premier League action on Saturday 14 October to take on rivals Liverpool at Anfield.
Both of us currently have a number of players on international duty, including Eric Bailly with the Ivory Coast and Philippe Coutinho all the way over in South America with Brazil.
Jose Mourinho had a number of injuries heading into our 4-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace last weekend – Paul Pogba, Michael Carrick, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo were all sidelined whilst Phil Jones, Anthony Martial and Marouane Fellaini all played despite being doubts heading into the game.
Phil Jones was then called up to the England squad ahead of their final two 2018 World Cup qualifiers this weekend but withdrew with an unspecified injury. It was not originally known how long the centre-back would be out for but the Liverpool Echo are now reporting that Jones is expected to be fit for next weekend’s Premier League clash with Liverpool.
The 25-year-old has played every single minute of our seven Premier League matches so far this season, keeping six clean sheets in the process. Six of those games have been alongside Eric Bailly and our 4-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace saw Chris Smalling partner Jones in the centre of our defence.
We travel to Anfield in our first match after the international break. Despite the usual enthusiasm heading into the Premier League season from Liverpool fans, their team have only won three of their opening seven fixtures and already seven points behind us and Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.
