Man Utd great candidates to sign Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix in January

Manchester United are considered great candidates to sign Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix during the January transfer window, Spanish outlet Marca claim.

The Red Devils recently released Cristiano Ronaldo by mutual agreement following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan where he criticised manager Erik ten Hag.

The club are now on the search for a quality replacement and Marca report that they could make a renewed approach for Felix at the beginning of the year.

Felix’s relationship with manager Diego Simeone has deteriorated this term. He has been a regular on the bench and Atletico are now prepared to consider his exit.

United are regarded as ‘great candidates’ to land his services but they are not alone with Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea also holding an interest.

Man Utd could attempt to sign Felix on loan

United were prepared to pay a staggering €130 million (£112m) to sign Felix from Atletico in the summer, but the Spanish giants had no plans of parting ways with him.

The Portuguese has since experienced a tough season at Atletico with just 818 minutes of first-team football. He has still chipped in with four goals and three assists.

The 23-year-old definitely has plenty of potential in him, but the style of play under Simeone has not worked in his favour. He could excel at United under Ten Hag.

He is currently valued at £43m by Transfermarkt and in our opinion, United should not be willing to offer more than £60m to land his signature from Atletico next year.

The ideal scenario would be to pursue him on loan in January with an option to buy next summer. With a possible takeover, the Glazers may be reluctant to spend big this winter.
