Man Utd graduate James Garner on Leicester City radar

James Garner

Leicester City are keen on signing Manchester United graduate James Garner during this summer’s transfer window, according to The Mirror.

The 21-year-old is currently on a season-long loan at Nottingham Forest where he has excelled with four goals and 10 assists from 48 appearances.

United boss Erik ten Hag is expected to assess his performances in pre-season, but the Foxes are prepared to pounce if the opportunity to sign him arises.

Our view:

Garner has been a key player for Forest in the Championship. Aside from his goal contributions, the midfielder has impressed defensively with 1.8 tackles and 1.4 interceptions per game.

Based on his progress, he should be given a fair chance to prove himself during pre-season. With Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba on their way out, Garner could fill one of the vacant spots.

This may depend on how he fares during the pre-season friendlies. Garner has had a fruitful loan spell at Forest, but there is room for improvement with his distribution and ball control.

If Ten Hag does not consider Garner ready for the first-team, we fancy him to be sent out on loan to a Premier League outfit rather than being sold on a permanent basis this summer.

It is unlikely that United will do business with the Foxes in such a case. A club like Crystal Palace or Southampton could be more beneficial for Garner’s development next term.
