Matteo Darmian was strongly linked with a move away from Manchester United last summer but remains at the club.
Italian champions Juventus were strongly linked with the full-back over the summer but no deal took place.
The 29-year-old has been restricted to just five Premier League appearances (4 starts) so far this season and his 90 minutes in the FA Cup victory over Reading earlier this month was at centre-back solely because we had no other defenders available.
According to Italian Sky Sports (via Sempre Inter), Internazionale have joined the race to sign the Italian defender and have overtaken Juventus in the running for his signature.
However, due to a Settlement Agreement that Inter have signed with UEFA for violating the Financial Fair Play rules, the Italian giants would be required to sell a player before they are able to make a purchase.
Whether we would allow the player to leave the club on loan for the second half of the season remains to be seen but with the number of injuries we’ve had in defence lately I’d imagine Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would only sell the player this month rather than send him out on loan.
