Man Utd eyeing ‘dynamic’ left-back with Patrick Dorgu viewed as a left winger

Manchester United could enter the transfer market for a dynamic left-back this summer, according to The Sun journalist Samuel Luckhurst.

The Red Devils are likely to make multiple additions to the squad. The midfield could be the prime area of focus with Casemiro on his way out when his contract expires on June 30.

Manuel Ugarte has also underperformed as a backup midfielder, and he could likewise be shown the exit door when the transfer window reopens.

Luckhurst has now revealed that United consider Patrick Dorgu as a left winger alongside Matheus Cunha.

United are poised to bolster the left-back position to ease the workload on Luke Shaw next season, given the club will play significantly more games.

The Red Devils could pursue a more ‘dynamic’ left-back to compete with the Englishman.

United should pursue a deal for Maxi Araujo

Shaw has had a terrific campaign with United, given his lengthy injury record. He has stayed unscathed and started every league game for the Red Devils.

However, his workload will need to be managed more carefully in future.

United will play a maximum of 40 matches this season, but the number could rise to 60 if the club go deep into the Cup and European competitions next term.

Hence, United need a quality competitor in their ranks alongside Shaw.

Dorgu, signed from Lecce for £25 million last year, does not appear to be the solution. The Dane is an attack-minded full-back, but he has been vulnerable defensively on occasions.

Dorgu has delivered his best performances as a wide player this campaign against Arsenal and Newcastle United. He has the knack for scoring goals, and his future could be higher up the pitch next term.

In our view, the club should pursue Sporting CP star Maxi Araujo as Shaw’s competitor. The Uruguayan is a perfect fit as a dynamic left-back, based on his performances for the Portuguese heavyweights.

He has amassed 12 goal contributions from 45 appearances this season, and has also caught the eye with his defensive involvements. He has won five duels alongside two tackles and four recoveries per league game.

His statistics are better in the Champions League, with seven duels and four tackles won per outing, with five recoveries. Araujo won a stunning 12 tackles and 17 duels during the quarter-final ties against Arsenal.

Hence, he has the attributes to succeed in the Premier League. Sporting CP are looking for at least £43 million on the table for Araujo. The Red Devils may need to be proactive to land him with Atletico among suitors.
