Man Utd executives held talks with former Atletico defender Mario Hermoso

Manchester United have made two signings during the summer transfer window and they are not far away from announcing more arrivals.

Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui successfully completed their medical tests yesterday and could be confirmed as United players soon.

The club are likely to recruit more signings before the transfer deadline, but The Athletic claim that Mario Hermoso is not an option for them.

United executives met with the former Atletico Madrid defender in Madrid last week, but he is not a player the club are pursuing at this time.

Hermoso is currently a free-agent after leaving Atletico at the end of his contract on June 30.

Red Devils unlikely to secure deal for Hermoso

The Spanish centre-back was a brilliant performer for Atletico in the Spanish top-flight. He made 45 appearances last season with an average of 84 minutes.

Hermoso had a passing accuracy of 87 percent with 2.6 clearances and 5.4 recoveries per outing.

The 2020/21 La Liga winner also won 55 percent of his duels alongside 1.5 tackles per game.

Despite his promising statistics, we are not surprised United have pulled out of the pursuit.

The club recently agreed to sign De Ligt from Bayern. The Dutchman should provide the much-needed quality and depth from the central defensive department.

Hermoso has the ability to operate at left-back, but Mazraoui’s imminent arrival should compensate for the role.

The Moroccan is a right-back, but made a handful of appearances from the left side of defence for Bayern last term.

The 29-year-old is eyeing a three-year deal worth £99,000 per week, but age could be a possible factor for United.

The club are keen on reducing the average age of the squad. This has probably played another part in the decision.
