Man Utd executive confident in signing Gareth Bale

Manchester United are being strongly linked with a move for Real Madrid star Gareth Bale again this summer.

Throughout this past season the Welsh winger was linked with a move to us after being in and out of Zinedine Zidane’s side.

Bale scored twice as a substitute in last month’s 3-1 Champions League final victory over Liverpool.  After the game he suggested he needs to be playing football on a more regular basis than what the world football giants are currently offering him.

Now Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is reportedly confident that we will make a big money move for the 28-year-old.

Journalist Duncan Castles told the Transfer Window Podcast (via the Manchester Evening News):

“Manchester United are definitely interested. Jose Mourinho tried to sign him last summer.”

Mr Castles then went on to say that Real Madrid are ‘likely’ to accept an offer from us:

“If Madrid say yes to it, which they’re likely to, and Bale says yes to it, that will necessitate a redrawing of United’s transfer plans. They didn’t go into the summer expecting to sign an attacking player of his status.”

He went on to say that Bale is the level of player that Ed Woodward wants to bring to Manchester United and that he is confident in convincing our owners to approve the funds required to bring the Real Madrid player to Old Trafford:

“Bale changes the dynamic, this is the level of player Ed Woodward wants to bring to the club. He has huge marketing potential. He’s confident of convincing the Glazers to approve the huge finances involved in getting him.”

However, one would think it is unlikely Real Madrid would consider any offer for the former-Tottenham Hotspur star until they appoint a new manager.  Zidane announced his shock departure from the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium last week.

We could also be expected to pay somewhere in the region of £100 million for the injury-prone winger.  Gareth Bale has predominately played out on the right for Real Madrid – a position that it appears Jose Mourinho wants to upgrade this summer.
