Manchester United have entered talks with Bayern Munich to sign midfielder Marcel Sabitzer before the transfer deadline, Florian Plettenberg claims.
The Red Devils recently confirmed a massive blow with Christian Eriksen being ruled out until late April or early May with a serious ankle injury.
United are now determined to fill the void and Plettenberg claims that both United and Chelsea have opened talks with Bayern for Sabitzer.
Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano reports that United have a clear run at signing the former Leipzig man with the Blues focusing on different targets.
Talks are ongoing between the clubs. United are discussing potential terms with Bayern after the untimely injury blow for Eriksen this month.
United could pursue Sabitzer on loan
Eriksen’s ankle injury is a huge setback for the Red Devils. The club are now without their best creative midfield outlet for the next three months at least.
Erik ten Hag has acknowledged that the Dane is hard to replace in the starting line-up and this could be a reason behind the surprise pursuit of Sabitzer.
Sabitzer was a superb number eight in his Leipzig days but his career has reached a standstill since his decision to join the reigning German champions.
The Austrian is clearly a fringe player for Bayern. He has played just over 2000 minutes in the last 18 months. United will be hoping to offer an escape route.
The 28-year-old can play in different midfield roles but can also operate in attack. In his early career, he was a winger and also played several games as a striker.
Hence, United have the chance to sign a multi-dimensional player, who could boost their chances of finishing in the top four and negate Eriksen’s injury absence.
