Man Utd enter race to sign Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount this summer

Manchester United have entered the race to sign Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount at the end of the season, according to the Guardian.

The Red Devils are eyeing a marquee striker and central midfielder this summer but they are unlikely to break the bank for both signings.

As per the Guardian, United boss Erik ten Hag would prefer to land Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane to bolster the club’s attack.

If a deal materialises for the England star or another marquee striker, it is claimed that the club could pursue a cheaper midfield option.

Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham is likely to cost over £100 million and it is reported that United see Mount as a cheaper alternative.

Mount would be a good acquisition for United

Mount has been a key player for the Blues with 192 appearances to his name. In this period, he has contributed 33 goals and 37 assists.

The 24-year-old has yet to renew his contract expiring next summer and this could force Chelsea to cash in on him in the next transfer window.

The west London giants may prefer to sell him to a club abroad, but they are unlikely to turn down a lucrative offer from the Red Devils.

United have already done business with Chelsea over the past decade with the signings of Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic for affordable fees.

Mount is currently valued at £67 million by Transfermarkt, but United can be optimistic of landing him for £50m due to his contract situation.

However, the Red Devils won’t be alone in the race with Liverpool also keen admirers. They may need to open talks early this summer to sign him.

Mount can play as a central or attacking midfielder. He is a more offensive-minded player but that would only suit the manager’s style of play.

The England star has the knack of creating regular chances and could fit in perfectly in the number eight role for the Red Devils next season.
