Man Utd discussing internally about fresh Frenkie de Jong bid

Manchester United are discussing internally about a fresh offer for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, Fabrizio Romano claims.

The Red Devils have identified the Dutchman as the top priority for the transfer window, but they are yet to finalise a suitable fee.

Their opening proposal of €60 million plus add-ons was rejected by the Catalan giants, who are eyeing at least €80 million up front.

It is now reported that the Red Devils are ‘discussing internally’ about a new proposal for De Jong. A renewed bid is a ‘serious possibility’.

Our view:

De Jong excelled from the number six role under Ten Hag at Ajax, and the Dutch tactician may have plans of playing him in a similar position at United.

The midfielder has already been convinced over the transfer, but the Blaugrana are now acting as the stumbling block as they are reluctant to lower their valuation.

A couple of economic levers approved this week should ease their financial concerns, but they may still look to cash in on De Jong before the end of the financial year (June 30).

While the club could balance their books with the recent approvals, they may want funds to spend this summer. De Jong’s sale would provide them with the extra transfer budget.

United will be hoping that this plays into their favour. They seem reluctant to meet the Blaugrana’s asking price for De Jong and may attempt to negotiate around €70m as the fixed fee.
