Man Utd defensive target believed to be available for transfer

Manchester United have kept just one clean sheet in our opening 12 Premier League matches this season after David de Gea won the Golden Glove award for most clean sheets only last season.

Eric Bailly appears to be out of the picture under Jose Mourinho whilst the partnership of Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof shipped three goals at Manchester City on Sunday.

This past summer we were strongly linked to signing a number of centre-backs but the club failed to make anything happen.

One of those players was Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng. The 30-year-old was believed to be interested in a move away from the Allianz Arena after seven seasons at the club had seen him win it all – six Bundesliga titles, the German Cup three times and the 2013 Champions League.

Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United were strongly linked with a move for the 2014 World Cup winner, with the French champions also failing to make a deal happen this past summer.

Boateng was part of the Bayern side that were beaten 3-2 at Borussia Dortmund on Saturday – falling seven points behind the leaders. Subsequently, the Bild are now reporting that several players have fallen out with head coach Niko Kovac, who was only appointed over the summer.

The report goes as far as to say that Manchester United are still ‘thought to be interested’ in the former-Manchester City defender. The German newspaper even claims that there is a ‘70% chance’ of a transfer happening.

In truth, Jerome Boateng certainly has an error or two in him, as shown during last summer’s World Cup and in his performances in the Champions League over the years. Given that he is already 30 years old, one would think there are better options out there for Jose Mourinho and the United board to invest in.
