Manchester United could wait until the last few days of the transfer window to sign Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, according to La Nazione journalist Riccardo Galli.
The Morocco international has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for several weeks, but United are yet to make an official approach for his services to Fiorentina.
The Serie A outfit currently value him at €30 million, and speaking to Radio Bruno’s Pentasport, Galli believes United could make an offer close to the transfer deadline.
He added that United are alone in the midfielder’s pursuit, and they could seek a discount to sign him.
He said (via La Viola News): “It is a situation that will be resolved in the last few days of the transfer market.”
“Manchester United know they’re alone on the player, there is no rush. Bringing it close to the gong could lower the price.
“There’s no rush, I’d be surprised if it clears up within a few days.”
United risk missing out on Amrabat
The Red Devils recently confirmed the departure of Fred to Fenerbahce for €15m. They are now aiming for another midfield departure before moving for Amrabat.
Donny van de Beek has been linked with Real Sociedad and Ajax, but neither of them have made a formal approach. Meanwhile, Scott McTominay is on the radar of West Ham United.
In our view, a move for Amrabat could depend on one of them leaving, but United need to be fast with the process as they face the risk of losing him to another club.
Galli gave his interview on Wednesday afternoon, and the scenario has changed over the last few hours.
Premier League rivals Liverpool have asked for information on Amrabat’s situation, and they could be a huge threat for the Red Devils in the pursuit of the Moroccan.
Amrabat has agreed terms in principle with United, but Liverpool could persuade him to join them. It is well known that they have funds readily available to spend.
