Man Utd could strengthen two key positions before 11pm deadline

Manchester United could be active on transfer deadline day as they aim to bolster two key positions in their squad.

The Red Devils have so far signed Jack Butland and Wout Weghorst on loan. There could be more transfer activity today based on injuries.

Christian Eriksen recently suffered an ankle injury in the 3-1 win over Reading. He was on the wrong end of a strong Andy Carroll tackle.

The Dane was spotted leaving the stadium on ‘crutches‘. If there is any significant concern, United could pursue a new central midfielder.

Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans could be an option for United, but the Red Devils may need to pay a lucrative fee to prise him away.

The Belgian is set to enter the final five months of his deal, but the Foxes will be reluctant to lose him as they are in a relegation battle.

United could also consider another temporary midfield signing but may have to look abroad after filling up their domestic loan quota.

Meanwhile, the club could be eyeing another forward on loan – most especially a striker.

Anthony Martial has been on the sidelines for a number of games with a leg issue. Manager Erik ten Hag has not provided a return date.

The Frenchman’s injury woes could urge the club to look into the loan market for a new centre-forward.

Real Betis’ Borja Iglesias has been linked but the Spanish outfit could be reluctant to lose him with no time to bring in a replacement.

The 30-year-old has 11 goal contributions for Betis, who are vying for the top four in La Liga. They may not accept a straight-loan deal.

It remains to be seen whether United will make an effort to sign anyone today. The winter transfer window closes at 11pm GMT.
