Man Utd could sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic for €60-65m this summer

Manchester United could be handed the opportunity to sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic during this summer’s transfer window.

The Red Devils are likely to pursue a quality midfielder this summer, and Milinkovic-Savic could be on their radar with his impressive all-round attributes.

The Serbian has impressed both defensively and offensively for Lazio over the years. He could be seen as a potential replacement for outgoing star Paul Pogba.

It was recently claimed that Lazio will want at least €70 million to part ways with their prized asset, but Alfredo Pedulla now reports that there could be a discount.

Club president Claudio Lotito could reportedly accept a package in the region of €60-65m for the player, who is on the radar of United and Paris Saint-Germain.

Milinkovic-Savic has been with the Serie A outfit for nearly seven seasons, but feels there is an end to the circle. He has no plans to renew his deal beyond June 2024.

Our view:

Milinkovic-Savic has had another superb campaign for Lazio. He has registered an impressive tally of eight goals and 10 assists from 39 appearances.

Aside from his goal contributions, he has also excelled defensively with 1.8 tackles and one interception per league game while winning three aerial duels on average.

While the Serbian is nearly two years younger to Pogba, he could also be considered as a potential upgrade to him, particularly in the defensive scheme of things.

In comparison to Milenkovic-Savic, the World Cup winner has averaged 0.8 tackles and 0.6 interceptions per league game. He has won 2.1 aerial duels per appearance.

The price quoted is within the affordable range of United, but they may struggle to lure him if they can’t secure qualification to next season’s Champions League.

Another possible stumbling block could be the player’s favoured destination. Milinkovic reportedly has the preference to move to Paris over Manchester this summer.
