Man Utd could pull off sensational swoop as club open to sell £90-rated star

Manchester United are set for a busy couple of weeks between now and the end of the summer transfer window.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already landed Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka since the end of last season, whilst we continue to be linked to a number of other players.

A new centre-back could be on the cards and Leicester City’s Harry Maguire is widely-expected to sign at Old Trafford before the start of the new season. Likewise, we’re looking for a new central midfielder, and Newcastle United’s Sean Longstaff is being touted as that man.

One of the more sensational stories this summer was Manchester United being linked with Juventus forward Paulo Dybala. The 25-year-old was a regular for the Italian champions last season, making 24 Serie A starts. However, the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo 12 months ago saw the Argentine’s productivity dip as he only scored five league goals, along with four assists.

Dybala is a highly-talented attacker, as proven with his 22 goals and five assists in 33 Serie A appearances (26 starts) in 2017-18 before the Old Lady lured Ronaldo from Real Madrid. Dybala also scored five Champions League goals in nine matches (6 starts) that season.

As a result of Ronaldo’s arrival, Paulo Dybala’s future in Turin remains uncertain. It is understood that the Argentina international is said to be weighing up his options this summer. Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have been the names reportedly most interested in his signature.

And both clubs have been put on red alert as Italian outlet Tuttosport are reporting that the 25-year-old ‘would not reject’ a move to Old Trafford this summer.

However, the Daily Star report that Juventus aren’t actively looking to flog Dybala, but that they would accept a bid of around €100 million (£90m) for the forward’s services.

That’s the kind of fee we’re going to need to stump up this summer if we want to get top players to the club to help us push for a top four finish and Champions League football. Given the player’s age, ability and his goalscoring record in both the Champions League and Serie A, I’d be happy for Manchester United to fork out this kind of money. But will Ed Woodward? We shall have to wait and see if anything develops from this story…
