Man Utd could make 1st summer signing this weekend

Manchester United have been strongly linked with a move for a number of players in recent weeks and it appears to be just a matter of days before we officially announce our first signing of the 2018 summer transfer window.

The latest report is that we are on the verge of completing a deal for FC Porto right-back Diogo Dalot.

We reported on Wednesday that we were closing on a £17.5 million deal for the 19-year-old and reports in Portugal have now brought us more details about the transfer.

Portuguese newspaper A Bola (via Sport Witness) report that an agreement between the two clubs have been reached and that Dalot will have his medical at Manchester United ‘in the next few days’ before signing a five-year contract at Old Trafford before an announcement being made ‘soon’.

This means Jose Mourinho and Manchester United could be announcing our first signing of the summer as early as this weekend.

Diogo Dalot has a €20 million (£17.5m) release clause in his contract which itself expires at the end of next season.

The teenager debuted for the FC Porto last season and made six Portuguese Primeira Liga appearances in all. However, these were at left-back in place of the injured Alex Telles. Dalot himself is naturally a right-back where he plies his trade for the B-team at the Portuguese champions.

Antonio Valencia turns 33 over the summer but the Ecuadorian shouldn’t fear losing his regular starting berth at right-back just yet as Dalot is still relatively inexperienced.  However, the Portuguese under-21 international can certainly expect some game time next season, assuming the deal does go through as planned.
