Manchester United host Barcelona in the first leg of our Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday 10 April.
The runaway Spanish La Liga leaders are the clear favourites with the bookmakers, but we’re coming off one of the upsets of the competition’s history when we overturned a 0-2 first leg defeat at home to Paris Saint-Germain to reach this round.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faces an even tougher test next week against a Barcelona side that are so far ahead in Spain that they can afford to rest their key players ahead of both legs.
The boss may also be without a number of first team players. Both Marcus Rashford and Ander Herrera missed our defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers midweek but it is hoped that the duo will be fit to face the Catalan club.
Solskjaer has been quoted as saying that Marcus has:
“a different ankle, it’s not the same ankle luckily. Hopefully we can mend him for the next game.”
On top of this, Eric Bailly, Antonio Valencia, Alexis Sanchez and Matteo Darmian have all been absent in recent weeks. Full-backs Valencia and Darmian have not featured for us since January whilst Bailly has missed both of our games since the international break. The first leg will come too soon for Alexis Sanchez to make his return.
