Manchester United are considering four more signings after reaching an agreement to sign Ajax winger Antony, The Telegraph’s Jason Burt claims.
The Red Devils had placed their emphasis on landing Antony over the past few days and they have now agreed a fee worth £85 million for his services.
This will take their spending spree to over £200m, but Burt reports that the club could make four more signings before Thursday’s transfer deadline.
A new back-up goalkeeper is one of the priorities for United. Talks are currently ongoing with Newcastle United over an initial loan deal for Martin Dubravka.
Aside from a shot-stopper, it is claimed that United could consider moves for a right-back, a midfielder and another forward before the window closes.
United set for an exciting end to the transfer window
United’s transfer business was criticised by some fans at the start of the campaign. Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez were the only signings onboard.
However, the club have since acted with the big-money purchase of Casemiro from Real Madrid. Antony’s arrival from Ajax is another big statement from the hierarchy this summer.
The board are certainly doing their best to pursue Erik ten Hag’s preferred targets, and it could be an exciting end to the transfer window with more signings on the cards.
Newcastle United are currently reluctant to accept United’s proposal to sign Dubravka on loan with a £5m buy clause, and it won’t be a surprise if the Red Devils pay the fee.
Meanwhile, Memphis Depay could be a realistic forward signing from Barcelona. The Dutchman is said to be eager to reunite with United after learning of their transfer interest.
The 28-year-old’s return to Old Trafford may depend on the future of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Depay’s teammate Sergino Dest could be a solution for the right-back spot. Ten Hag has given the green light for the move, but the United States star needs to be convinced.
The Red Devils are eyeing another midfielder, but there are no clear-cut targets for now.
It would be a massive moment if they can finally land Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, but that appears unrealistic, particularly after the huge outlay to sign Antony from Ajax.
Juventus’ Adrien Rabiot could re-emerge as an option for United, but it also seems improbable after his lofty wage demands which put the Red Devils off at the beginning of the month.
