Manchester United have been strongly linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho all year, but we are still yet to agree a deal for the England international.
The German side have insisted throughout that the 20-year-old will not be available for less than €100 million (£89m), despite the current circumstances.
As a result, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if we found an alternative option to the forward. It’s no secret that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on adding a right winger to the squad before the start of next season.
Today, the Daily Mail are reporting that we are ‘giving serious consideration’ to Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey as that alternative option.
This news comes somewhat out of the blue, especially as the Jamaican international has made just nine Bundesliga starts this season. Oh, and he’s also a left winger. His only start since the league has got up and running again lasted just 45 minutes – in their 2-4 home loss to Bayern Munich over a week ago.
The report goes on to say that Bayer 04 value the 22-year-old at £40 million. Whilst that is significantly cheaper than Sancho, it still seems relatively expensive for a player in and out of the first team.
Bailey has three years left on his contract at the Bay Arena but is a left-footer who predominantly plays down that flank too, which doesn’t make him an obvious choice for us.
The pacey winger does score and setup goals at a good rate down the left wing, but we already have Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford as options here.
