Manchester United have confirmed a 21-man travelling squad for the Champions League group stage opener against Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.
The Red Devils have had a below-par start to the Premier League season. They have picked up only six points from the opening five matches.
Erik ten Hag will be eyeing a strong response against Bayern at the Allianz Arena but ahead of the game, the club have suffered another injury.
According to Man United’s official website, Harry Maguire won’t be travelling with his teammates to Munich today after picking up an injury.
Meanwhile, Mason Mount and Raphael Varane are not in the squad either despite being spotted training in the open session conducted earlier today.
Here is the travelling squad for the game
Altay Bayindir, Tom Heaton, Andre Onana, Radek Vitek, Victor Lindelof, Lisandro Martinez, Sergio Reguilon, Diogo Dalot, Jonny Evans, Bruno Fernandes, Christian Eriksen, Casemiro, Facundo Pellistri, Scott McTominay, Dan Gore, Hannibal Mejbri, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho, Omari Forson.
United have been hampered by several injuries in the early part of the season. Yesterday, it was confirmed that Aaron Wan-Bissaka would be sidelined for weeks.
The club have now revealed that Maguire has joined the long absentee list and hopefully, the injury is a minor one and he will be fit for the weekend’s game at Burnley.
United are currently on a two-match losing streak after 3-1 defeats to Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion. They face another huge challenge tomorrow.
The Red Devils have never beaten Bayern at their stadium, but they have the opportunity to spring up a surprise despite missing several key players in the squad.
In our view, Ten Hag should go with a traditional 4-2-3-1 set-up for the game. Alejandro Garnacho should get the nod in the starting line-up in place of Scott McTominay.
