Manchester United will be looking to sign one or two central midfielders during this summer’s transfer window.
Michael Carrick has already announced he is to retire over the summer whilst it is becoming increasingly likely that Marouane Fellaini will walk away from the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Subsequently, there have been numerous replacement midfielders linked with a move to Old Trafford and one of the strongest stories over the past couple of months has been the potential signing of Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
The 23-year-old is one of the highest-rated central midfielders in Europe right now as he has been instrumental in helping the Rome club reach the quarter-finals of this season’s Europa League and into fourth place in the Serie A table.
United scouts have watched the Serbian international at least a dozen times this season as we look for a player to partner Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba in our midfield three.
The Metro are now claiming that a report in the Independent suggests that we are confident in closing in on a deal for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. They understand that the Italian club value the midfielder at around £90 million.
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has scored an impressive 11 goals and recorded three assists in 32 Serie A appearances (30 starts) in a central attacking midfield role for Lazio this season.
As well as being capable of scoring goals and having a good long-range shot on him, the midfielder also gets back to defend and is good in his defensive duties.
