Manchester United have been strongly linked with signing Arsenal contract rebel Alexis Sanchez this month.
The Chilean star is in the final six months of his deal at the Emirates and Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has already conceded that he is going to lose his star either this month or in the summer.
We became heavy favourites to sign Sanchez after Manchester City pulled out of negotiations with Arsenal on Monday.
Over the past few days it is understood that we have been negotiating a deal with the player whilst trying to ship Henrikh Mkhitaryan off in the opposite direction.
The Telegraph have now revealed that if we are successful in our move for Alexis Sanchez the deal will be worth around £180 million.
According to the report, Sanchez has agreed a four-and-a-half-year deal worth just under £27 million-a-year. Add £30 million for the valuation of the deal, a staggering £20 million signing-on fee and agent fees worth more than £10 million and you get a total sum of around £180 million.
On top of this, the Mirror reported earlier today that we are looking to wrap up a deal within the next 24 hours with a view to the forward making his debut at Burnley on Saturday.
The 29-year-old has been a superstar at Arsenal since joining from Barcelona three-and-a-half-years ago. He has scored an impressive 60 goals in 122 Premier League appearances, mostly out on the wings.
It is expected that Sanchez would play on the right of a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 formation should he join Manchester United. Juan Mata has played the majority of our games in that role this season but Jose Mourinho has never been a big fan of the Spaniard.
Mata could be moved into the number 10 role where he excels at and where Jesse Lingard has been playing of late. A trio of Anthony Martial/Marcus Rashford, Mata and Sanchez behind Romelu Lukaku has fantastic potential for both the remainder of this season and beyond.
