Manchester United have been keeping a close eye on the performances of Roma striker Tammy Abraham, according to La Repubblica.
The Red Devils are likely to land a marquee striker in the next transfer window and they have already been linked with multiple stars.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane has been named as the prime target for manager Erik ten Hag but a summer deal appears unlikely.
Napoli striker Victor Osimhen is another name on United’s radar while Abraham has also been mentioned as a potential striker candidate.
It is now reported by La Repubblica via Giallorossi.net that United scouts were watching Abraham during Roma’s 2-0 win over Real Sociedad last week.
The Red Devils have chosen to follow him closely for the rest of the season. Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini recently described Abraham as a ‘great player‘.
United’s interest in Abraham comes as a surprise
Abraham had a terrific debut season with Roma last term, registering 27 goals and five assists from 53 appearances across all competitions.
However, he has struggled in his second year with just seven goals and six assists from 36 outings.
Hence, United’s interest in Abraham comes as a surprise. The 25-year-old is a talented striker but he was not overly impressive at former club Chelsea.
The Englishman netted only 21 goals in 58 Premier League appearances and in our opinion, the club should look at a better option to lead the attack.
Roma are likely to demand big money for Abraham. They signed the striker for €40 million in 2021 but Chelsea have the option to buy him back for €80m this summer.
For such a figure, United should stay away from pursuing a deal. Benfica sensation Goncalo Ramos would be a far better acquisition for around €100m.
