Man Utd close to completing 1st big summer signing, not Sancho

Manchester United have reportedly completed our first big signing this summer.

We have been strongly linked with a number of players since the turn of the year and one of those was Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Raul Jimenez.

The Mexican has been excellent in two Premier League seasons with the West Midlands club, scoring 30 goals.

Reports in Portugal are now claiming that the 29-year-old is on his way to Old Trafford.

News outlet RTP state Wolves have lined up Raul’s replacement with the €30 million (£27m) acquisition of Sporting Braga striker Paulinho.

There is no official confirmation from Manchester United or any of the reliable news sources in the UK just yet, so we are keen to keep our eyes open over the coming hours and potentially days to see if this story develops further.

Although RTP doesn’t mention a price, but only last month was it reported that we would need to fork out a staggering £90 million. There’s no chance we would splash that sum out on Raul Jimenez given his age, especially when we reportedly won’t fork out that price on Jadon Sancho nor Jack Grealish.

Raul doesn’t really fit Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s typical signing either. The boss is growing a young team, so I find it a little difficult to believe this story, particularly with the form of Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford after the restart.

We’ll keep our eyes open over the coming hours, days and weeks and bring any further news on this transfer story to you.
