Man Utd are very interested in signing ‘explosive’ Dutch star, available for just £22m

Manchester United and Aston Villa are weighing up moves for Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Interista.

Dumfries has had an injury-plagued campaign with the Nerazzurri, but he has still made six goal contributions from 24 appearances across all competitions.

The 30-year-old recently boosted Inter’s Serie A title pursuit by scoring a brace against Como (4-3 win). He also got himself an assist during their victory over Cagliari this month.

Inter have now proposed a new contract worth £4.35 million per year to the Dutchman, but as things stand, he has yet to commit his future to the San Siro giants.

This has brought a sense of anxiety around the Nerazzurri, given he has a release clause of just £22 million in his contract and could secure a summer transfer.

United and Villa are ‘most interested’ in signing the former PSV Eindhoven defender, who has been described as ‘explosive‘ by the Chronicle.

Dumfries would be a superb signing at £22m

The Netherlands international has been linked with a move to the Premier League for several seasons. He was initially on United’s radar during his time at PSV before the 2021 European Championship.

Dumfries made the move to the Nerazzurri instead and has proved a brilliant recruit. He has exclusively played as a right wing-back for them, contributing 27 goals and 27 assists from 204 appearances.

The Dutchman has also operated as a right-back at the national level. In our opinion, Dumfries would be a fantastic addition to the Red Devils’ ranks, given he could be signed for a knockdown price.

Despite turning 30 last week, the right-back has regularly captured the eye with his overlapping runs. He has a strong physical presence and can also make defensive contributions when required.

United are craving for an attacking right-back in their squad. Diogo Dalot has been solid in his distribution but has not necessarily made regular goal involvements.

Noussair Mazraoui has been a decent deputy, but he is more defensive-minded. Dumfries would be an upgrade on the pair, but a deal may depend on a potential exit.

Mazraoui was linked with a move to Serie A with Juventus earlier this year. He is more likely to end up in Italy if United decide to trigger Dumfries’ buy-out clause.

It remains to be seen whether Dumfries is open to a fresh challenge in the Premier League or considers the possibility of signing a new Inter deal without a clause.
