Manchester United are serious about signing one of Napoli’s best players, according to Sport Mediaset.
The Red Devils strengthened their squad with a spending spree last summer, but they continue to lag behind their top-four rivals in the final third of the pitch.
New manager Ruben Amorim will want to strengthen his attack by next summer and it is reported that the club are serious about landing Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
The Georgia international will enter the final two years of his contract next July and he has yet to be convinced to prolong his stay with the Naples outfit.
The Serie A giants have offered a yearly salary of £5 million which has been snubbed by the versatile ace.
United are aiming to capitalise on the situation. They are ready to offer Kvaratskhelia a package of £7.5m including add-ons to bring him to Old Trafford.
The 23-year-old has been identified as a strong candidate for the number 10 role in Amorim’s system.
Napoli currently value their prized asset at £84m, but the hierarchy are willing to accept staggered payments, should they decide to part ways with him.
Kvaratskhelia would be a huge statement signing
The attacker had a brilliant debut season with Napoli last term. He managed 20 goal contributions and ended up winning the Serie A MVP award ahead of Victor Osimhen.
Kvaratskhelia had a slow start to the current campaign, but he has picked up form with seven goal involvements from 15 appearances under manager Antonio Conte.
The Georgian, who has been described as ‘very good‘ by former Brazilian star Kaka, is predominantly a left winger, but he can also operate in other attacking roles.
Amorim could see him as an ideal partner to accompany Bruno Fernandes as an inverted forward.
Kvaratskhelia is someone who likes to take risks in the final third. He has the knack for creating chances, something which Fernandes has done with good effect for the Red Devils.
He also possesses superb dribbling skills alongside a tireless workrate. He can also comfortably pass and shoot with either foot which is another attribute which separates him from many.
His price tag may not prove a stumbling block for United with staggered payments. The question is whether United can prise him away ahead of Paris Saint-Germain next year.
The French champions could not strike a deal with Napoli last summer and could make a renewed approach. Kvaratskhelia was reportedly offered £8.4m per year by Les Parisiens.
