Manchester United are poised to make multiple changes to the squad during the summer.
The Red Devils booked their Champions League berth earlier this month and may now seek to reinforce their squad to handle the extra workload next season.
A couple of defensive midfielders could be the prime priority. Casemiro will leave on a free transfer soon, while Manuel Ugarte could be offloaded too.
Meanwhile, United may also look to add more options to their backline, and Gazzetta dello Sport claim that the club are ‘on the trail’ of Gleison Bremer.
The Brazilian has been a key player for Juventus in recent years, but he could leave this summer if the Bianconeri miss out on Champions League football.
Bremer has his sights on moving to the Premier League. It is claimed that United are one of the contenders to land the former Torino centre-back.
The 29-year-old has a contract until June 2029, but the Bianconeri could be helpless in keeping him due to a release clause of around £50 million in his deal.
Man Utd should pursue a younger centre-back option
Bremer was a potential target for the Red Devils during his time at Torino, but a formal approach was never made. The Bianconeri ultimately landed his signature.
He has been brilliant for Juventus in Serie A this term. The Brazilian has completed 90 percent of his passes with an average of four duels won, four recoveries and four clearances per match.
He has also chipped in with four goals and three assists. Despite this, the Bianconeri have dropped to sixth in the league table after a surprise loss to Fiorentina at home last weekend.
Juventus are now behind Como on head-to-head, while they are trailing AC Milan and Roma in third and fourth by two points. They need a minor miracle to qualify for the Champions League.
Bremer may seek an exit if that does not happen, but we doubt United will make a huge outlay of £50m on a player who has already turned 29 and could be past his prime in a few years.
United need defensive cover for Matthijs de Ligt, who has undergone back surgery. The Netherlands international is confirmed to miss the early stages of next season as a result.
Still, the club should seek a young solution, such as Elche’s David Affengruber. The 25-year-old Austrian could be prised away for just £18m after a standout campaign in the Spanish La Liga.
He has traits similar to Bremer with a strong aerial and physical presence, and fares better at tackling too. He would be a brilliant bargain acquisition for the Red Devils this summer.
