Man Utd applying ‘very strong pressure’ to sign Chelsea target Denzel Dumfries

Manchester United are applying ‘very strong pressure’ to sign Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries, who is also on the radar of Chelsea, Inter Live report.

The Dutchman has been regularly linked with a Premier League move over the past two years and the speculation over his future has once again intensified.

It is now claimed by Inter Live that there is ‘very strong pressure’ from the English top-flight to sign him. United and Chelsea are mentioned as the prime candidates.

The Nerazzurri previously valued Dumfries in the region of €50 million, but they are now hopeful of securing at least €40m to be reinvested into their squad.

Will Man Utd pursue another right-back this summer?

United boss Erik ten Hag had a clear preference for Diogo Dalot in the right-back spot before the World Cup. Aaron Wan-Bissaka played just four competitive minutes.

However, the latter has redeemed himself since the restart. He has put in several stand-out performances from the starting line-up and has also excelled off the bench.

We recently highlighted how Wan-Bissaka is becoming a favourite under Ten Hag. In our view, any move for Dumfries could be directly dependent on Dalot’s future.

Dalot will enter the final year of his United contract at the end of June and the hierarchy have yet to convince him to put pen-to-paper on a new improved deal.

If the stand-off continues, the club could consider parting ways with Dalot to sign Dumfries, who has two goals and five assists from 31 matches for Inter this season.

The Dutchman has primarily played from right wing-back for Inter but he was previously a traditional right-back at PSV. His attacking traits would suit Ten Hag’s system.

United should have a free-run at signing him despite the Chelsea link. The Blues recruited Malo Gusto from Lyon in January and are unlikely to pursue another right-back.
