Manchester United have reached an agreement with Championship side Cardiff City to sign highly-rated teenage striker Gabriele Biancheri, according to David Ornstein.
The Red Devils have made just one outfield signing in Wout Weghorst on loan and they are unlikely to bolster their first-team squad with anyone else before the deadline.
However, they are on the verge of signing Biancheri for their development squad.
The 16-year-old wonderkid will sign an initial scholar contract with the club before penning a new long-term professional deal when he turns 17 on September 18.
Biancheri, who has represented Wales at the Under-17 level, is also eligible to play for England and Italy. He has already completed his Red Devils medical.
United don’t have to rush the deal before Tuesday’s 11pm as he will only be on a scholar contract. They will be hoping that he can break into the first-team in the long run.
Not much is known about Biancheri but the youngster recently made the step up to the Cardiff City Under-21s with their staff hugely impressed by his development.
Premier League rivals Chelsea were also interested in securing his signature lately. United have done a brilliant job to prise him away ahead of the big spenders from London.
Biancheri has the perfect platform to develop at United with manager Erik ten Hag recently confirming that he has assumed more control over the Under-21 reserve side.
The Dutchman felt that the reserve team was ‘isolated’ when he first arrived at the club and wants a degree of control over the playing style and squad selections in future.
