Man Utd agree deal for defender

Manchester United have been quiet so far during the January transfer window.

With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer only in charge as the caretaker manager at Old Trafford it could be that the board don’t want to splash out any or much money until we have a permanent boss in charge.

However, it looks as though we’re happy to let players go as the Metro are citing reports from Italy that claim we have agreed a deal with Juventus for Matteo Darmian to spend the remainder of the season on loan at the Serie A leaders with an option to buy in the summer.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via the Metro) are claiming the the Old Lady have secured a deal for the full-back to be worth €3-4 million during his six-month loan.

Following the emergence of Diogo Dalot this season and with Ashley Young often being preferred as another option at right-back instead of Darmian, the 29-year-old has been limited to just five Premier League appearances (4 starts) so far this campaign. He even slotted in at centre-back for our 2-0 win over Reading in the FA Cup third round earlier this month, though that was due to a lack of players available.

With Antonio Valencia another option at right-back and Luke Shaw and Ashley Young playing at left-back, Darmian is left surplus to requirements at Old Trafford and a move away from the club this month would come as no surprise.

Matteo Darmian is set to link up with former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo at the Juventus Stadium, should this report from Italy be accurate.
