Man Utd ace Patrick Dorgu prefers one fixed position, says he is most natural as a left-back

Manchester United ace Patrick Dorgu has said he would prefer one fixed position during an interview with Tipsbladet.

The Denmark international joined the Red Devils from Lecce for £25 million last winter, and played as a left wing-back under manager Ruben Amorim.

The 21-year-old has since impressed as a winger under manager Michael Carrick. He was recently used as a left-back after a fitness issue for Luke Shaw.

Speaking to Tipsbladet, Dorgu said that he would prefer to have one fixed position, as that would make it easier to work on during training sessions.

However, the Dane added that he is prepared to accept multiple roles, given the current trend. He added that he feels most natural as a left-back.

He said: “I would prefer to have one fixed position. It makes things easier to work on during training.

“But many players today can play multiple positions. I just want to be on the pitch, regardless of the position.

“I started my professional career as a left-back, so that feels most natural to me, but I can also play the attacking roles I do at United.”

Dorgu’s future could be as a versatile winger

The 21-year-old started his career at Lecce as a left-back, but he played on the right wing prior to his move to the Red Devils in January last year.

Amorim largely utilised Dorgu as a left wing-back, but he produced a brilliant display as a right winger against Newcastle United in December, scoring with a sublime volley.

Under Carrick, he has predominantly played on the left wing. Shaw’s recent absence meant Dorgu moved to left-back, but he was far from convincing against Manchester City.

The Dane made multiple errors and gifted possession to the Cityzens in the lead-up to the winning goal.

Although the goal was controversial, Dorgu also played Erling Haaland onside after his untimely touch from Josko Gvardiol’s cross. He was subsequently dropped from the XI.

Dorgu suggests he is more natural as a left-back, but it is quite clear to see that he is comfortable as a wide attacking player, where he does need to track back and defend regularly.

He has played as a left winger for United for most of the year, but Denmark head coach Brian Tiemer has preferred to play him on the right wing, as he did yesterday against Norway too.

Hence, Dorgu’s future for club and country looks to be as a versatile winger.
