Man United Women 2-0 West Ham: Eva Olid earns first WSL win

Manchester United Women claimed a 2-0 win over West Ham United at Progress With Unity Stadium, recording their first Women’s Super League win under Eva Olid.

Man United were looking to build on their 10-1 thrashing of Sheffield United in the Subway Players Cup on Wednesday and got off to the perfect start.

They opened the scoring in the ninth minute. Anna Sandberg whipped a corner into the area, and Elisabeth Terland planted a header into the net.

West Ham nearly got an immediate response, with Kelly Gago heading wide at the back post.

Shortly after, the visitors won the ball high, and Katie Zelem squared to Viviane Asseyi, who failed to hit the target.

Seraina Piubel then curled wide as the Hammers continued to pile on the pressure in search of an equaliser.

Sandberg almost doubled the Red Devils’ advantage before halftime, but goalkeeper Constance Picaud-Inconnu tipped it over.

Man United went on the attack again just after the interval, with Andrea Medina striking the crossbar. Moments later, Jess Park failed to convert a chance at the back post.

Picaud-Inconnu then produced a brilliant save, denying Terland her second of the afternoon.

At the other end, Phallon Tullis-Joyce tipped Estelle Cascarino’s strike over the bar, keeping United ahead.

Medina doubled United’s lead in the 72nd minute. The left-back showed composure to curl her rebound into the far corner, scoring her first goal in the Women’s Super League.

Olid’s side are back in action on Wednesday when they face Durham Women in the Subway Players Cup.
