Man United W vs Chelsea W: Match preview, team news, where to watch

Manchester United Women host table-toppers Chelsea in the Women’s Super League at Leigh Sports Village on Wednesday evening.

United drew 0-0 with West Ham United in their last match.

They are on the cusp of qualifying for the Women’s Champions League but are unlikely to catch Chelsea with three games to spare.

Chelsea won their last league game, beating Crystal Palace 4-0 at Kingsmeadow. They are six points ahead of second-placed Arsenal and eight ahead of United.

Match preview

Chelsea are the favourites for this game. The Blues have won nine and drawn one of their 10 previous meetings with the Mancunian giants.

United will be no pushovers as they have just lost once on their patch across all competitions this season. They also have the best defensive record in the division.

United need to avoid a defeat in this clash to stretch their lead over Manchester City, who are seeking to topple them for the last Champions League qualification spot.

They secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Leicester City on Sunday to move four points behind United.

Team news

Head coach Marc Skinner hopes to have a full squad available for this encounter.

Centre-back Nathalie Bjorn missed Chelsea’s clash with Barcelona over the weekend, but head coach Sonia Bompastor hopes she will be back for this encounter.

Sam Kerr has yet to recover from the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury she suffered in January 2024. Lauren James will also be absent.

Where to watch

The game will be shown live on Sky Sports, and there will also be live radio commentary on the United App.
