Manchester United have been urged to stick with Erik ten Hag if they intend to change the culture at the club following their dramatic 1-0 victory over FC Copenhagen in the Champions League.
The Red Devils are having a massively underwhelming campaign, but the tide appears to be turning in their favour after winning three games on the trot in all competitions for the first time this season.
Harry Maguire got his name on the score sheet after guiding home Christian Eriksen’s delicious delivery into the box, but Andre Onana emerged as the matchwinner after his last-minute heroics.
The Cameroon international goalkeeper, who has been subject to criticism since completing his big-money move to Old Trafford, saved a penalty in what was the last action of the game to ensure maximum points for Ten Hag’s side.
The victory over the Danish giants was Man United’s first in the Champions League this season, having previously suffered defeats to Bayern Munich and Galatasaray.
With the Red Devils now turning a corner, Simon Jordan has urged Man United to retain their faith in Ten Hag, whose position at the club has come under question at some point this season.
“He’s [Ten Hag] had no experience of managing under this kind of scrutiny with some of these players,” Jordan said on talkSPORT.
“Maybe United have got to be prepared to say that whatever the micro-moment looks like, we’ve got the macro picture.
“That is, in three years’ time, we’re going to be where we need to be, and somehow, one way or another, the culture of Manchester United is going to be changed under this guy.
“They’ve become a Manchester United that accepts defeat, gets beat at home, seems to have a culture of players that don’t respect the football club and think they’re entitled to say what they want.
“All of that seems to be a culture that underpins a football club that has great illusions about where it should be and delusions of the reality of what it’s going to take to get there.”
Man United return to Premier League duties at the weekend with a massive home match against local rivals Manchester City in the first Manchester derby of the season.
Form tends to go out the window in high-stakes fixtures like these, but Ten Hag will be pleased with his side heading into the mouth-watering encounter on the back of a three-match winning streak.
