Manchester United are ‘unlikely’ to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Ibrahim Mbaye, according to transfer reporter Alex Crook.
Some reports had claimed that the Red Devils had made an enquiry about Mbaye’s availability.
Liverpool have also been credited with an interest in the Senegal international, but are reluctant to meet PSG’s asking price.
Speaking on The Window, Crook has now claimed that United are unlikely to make an approach for Mbaye, given Marcos Rashford’s return to the squad.
He said: “I find this one a little bit unlikely when it comes to United. Marcus Rashford is back in the building. He’s got that number 14 jersey for the new season.
“Michael Carrick has been speaking glowingly about the attitude that he’s shown during training so far.
“So, it does look like Marcus Rashford will be integrated into the United first team after 18 months out on loan.”
The Red Devils’ reported interest in the 18-year-old could be agent-driven, particularly with the teenager pushing to leave PSG in search of more regular playing time.
Mbaye holds the French giants’ record as their youngest-ever starter, but has struggled to break into the starting line-up.
United are expected to target an experienced forward over Mbaye if they still intend to sign an attacker this summer, having already added 18-year-old left winger Tynan Thompson as a long-term option.
But as it stands, the Mancunian giants are likely to prioritise the addition of another midfielder and a left-back before the end of the transfer window.
Rashford gives United greater depth on the flanks, with the England international capable of operating on either side.
The 28-year-old could make his first appearance for United since 2024 in Saturday’s final pre-season friendly against AC Milan at Tarczynski Stadium in Wroclaw, Poland.
