Man United U21s continue perfect Premier League 2 start with win over Crystal Palace

Manchester United U21s continued their flawless start to the season in the Premier League 2 with a 4-1 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

Man United started the game strongly and had chances to open the scoring early on.

Bendito Mantato, who was a thorn in the flesh of Palace’s defence registered United’s first attempt at goal after sprinting forward to strike a low shot, which was met by a timely block.

Gabriel Biancheri, scorer of Man United’s winner against Athletic on Wednesday, then squandered a chance, heading Jayce Fitzgerald’s delivery away from goal.

Man United’s excellent start to the game was rewarded in first-half stoppage time as Jacob Devaney got the breakthrough with a superb finish from the edge of the penalty area.

Devaney provided the young Reds’ second goal in the 56th minute, teeing up Biancheri to head past Jackson Izquierdo at the back post.

Biancheri almost increased Man United’s lead with an effort, but Izquierdo made a save to keep the hosts’ hopes of staging a comeback.

The 20-year-old’s save proved vital as Palace pulled one back ten minutes from time, as Asher Agbinone struck a right-footed shot into the top corner.

The goal forced Travis Binnion to make two changes, bringing on Chido Obi and Shea Lacey.

Lacey justified his introduction as he made it 3-1 in the 87th minute with a superb free-kick that left Izquierdo rooted to the spot. He completed the scoring with a superb finish on the stroke of full-time.

United sit atop the standings, two points clear of second-placed Ipswich Town, who have also not tasted defeat this season.

Binnion’s side are back in action on Tuesday at Lincoln City in the Football League Trophy. They lost 2-1 to Brackley Town in their last fixture in the competition.
