Manchester United U18s recorded their sixth consecutive victory in the U18 Premier League North, winning 3-0 at Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon.
Head coach Adam Lawrence made two changes to the side that started in the emphatic win over Leeds United last weekend.
Will Murdock replaced Cameron Byrne-Hughes in goal, while Jacob Devaney came in for James Bailey in midfield.
In the early stages, striker Victor Musa came close to opening the scoring for United, only to be denied by Forest goalkeeper Ally Graham.
Lawrence’s side found chances hard to come by for most of the first half, struggling to break down a well-drilled Forest team.
After the restart, Murdock made a brilliant one-on-one save to keep the scoreline goalless.
United kept pushing and eventually found the breakthrough just after the hour mark.
After Forest cleared a pass aimed towards Zach Bauman, the ball fell to Amir Ibragimov whose deflected shot found its way past Graham.
Seven minutes later, James Overy doubled United’s lead, picking out the bottom left corner with a left-footed strike from inside the box. It was the full-back’s first-ever goal for the U18s.
The defending champions rounded off the scoring in stoppage time with a brilliant team move.
Musa fed substitute Shea Lacey, who made a clever run before finding James Bailey. The midfielder did well in finishing with precision.
Since playing out a goalless draw against Newcastle United in February, United have not dropped a point in the league, helping them stay within touching distance of Manchester City at the top of the table.
United sit two points behind the Cityzens heading into the final fixtures of the season.
