Man United U18s beat Derby in seven-goal thriller

Manchester United U18s produced another sensational comeback, defeating Derby County 4-3 at Carrington Training Centre on Friday afternoon to remain in contention for the U18 Premier League title.

United could have taken the lead through striker Gabriel Biancheri, who could not convert from Amir Ibragimov’s cross.

They were made to pay as Derby scored the opener in the 9th minute, as Cruz Allen finished ruthlessly past goalkeeper Will Murdock.

Murdock then denied Allen the opportunity to give the away side a two-goal advantage before several chances came United’s way, but they could not hit the target.

The Rams doubled their advantage in the 33rd minute, with Charles Ebuka scoring after Murdock had punched away a free-kick.

United replied just before the interval when Bendito Mantato scored after a slick move involving Ibragimov, Biancheri and James Scanlon.

Adam Lawrence’s side started the second half brightly. Scanlon had an early effort saved, and Dan Armer headed just wide before substitute Shea Lacey made an immediate impact.

The winger had beaten his marker before setting up Scanlon for the equaliser in the 72nd minute.

Four minutes later, Lacey was on the scoresheet, maneuvering through Derby’s defence before striking the ball into the bottom left-corner corner with his right foot.

The game took another dramatic turn in the 82nd minute as Tristan Gill headed in the equaliser for Derby, punishing United for failing to defend properly.

United would then grab the winner in the stoppage time. Lacey was once again the instigator, playing a neat ball into the box for Tyler Fletcher, who pulled it back for Victor Musa to apply the finish.

The result leaves United within touching distance of rivals Manchester City, who sit atop the standings. They are back in action against Everton at Finch Farm on April 26.
