Man United target Roberto de Zerbi to leave Brighton at end of season

Manchester United managerial target Roberto de Zerbi will leave Brighton & Hove Albion after the final Premier League match of the season on Sunday.

The Seagulls confirmed on their official website that the two parties have mutually agreed to end De Zerbi’s contract.

The 44-year-old is a strong contender to replace Erik ten Hag as Man United manager.

Graham Potter, Gareth Southgate and Thomas Frank have also been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

United are expected to consider Ten Hag’s future after a poor 2023/24 campaign.

The FA Cup final against Manchester City could play a crucial role in determining the Dutchman’s future at Old Trafford.

De Zerbi led the Seagulls to new heights in his two-year stay. Brighton had their best-ever top-flight finish in 2022/23 under him.

He also led the club to the last 16 of the Europa League which is a significant achievement considering the club’s resources.

They grabbed the top spot in their Europa League group ahead of Marseille, Ajax and AEK Athens.

Injuries have hampered their Premier League campaign, but they still have a chance to finish in the top half of the table.

De Zerbi has earned plaudits due to his attractive style of play over the last two years.

United want a candidate who can contribute to the club’s long-term rebuilding process over immediate short-term success.

The current Brighton boss could be a great fit given his tactical acumen and proven track record in developing young players.

Bayern Munich are also interested in acquiring his services after announcing the departure of Thomas Tuchel.

The former Sassuolo manager could do wonders at the German club, considering their size, transfer appeal and budget.
