Man United stars praise former goalkeeper after heroics for Fiorentina against AC Milan

Manchester United played out a goalless draw against Aston Villa on Sunday to further pile pressure on manager Erik ten Hag, but some of the players had something else to cheer for after David de Gea put on a top performance for Fiorentina.

The Spanish goalkeeper was out of action for the whole of last season after leaving the Red Devils but finally found a new club ahead of 2024-25, joining the Serie A club.

Fiorentina took on AC Milan last night and De Gea helped them to a 2-1 victory, saving penalties from Theo Hernandez and Tammy Abraham during the game.

The Man United legend took to social media platform Instagram to react after his performance, and Bruno Fernandes, Scott McTominay, Diogo Dalot and Harry Maguire all took to the comment section to shower praise on him.

De Gea has continued to prove his quality elsewhere after leaving the Red Devils, and his replacement at the Old Trafford club has started doing well following an uninspiring debut campaign.

Ten Hag brought in Andre Onana last summer and while he did not always impress, the former Inter Milan star has been on song so far this term.

Man United coaching staff are reportedly very happy with his development following his commendable start to 2024-25, and he has kept the most clean sheets (four) in the Premier League this season, helping the Red Devils to a goalless draw at Villa Park yesterday.

Ten Hag will hope others can emulate Onana given their lethargic performances during the majority of their games this season.

They have won just three games of the 11 they have played across all competitions, and things have to improve significantly going forward.
