Manchester United have been dealt a significant setback with a recent injury that may force them to alter their transfer plans.
Man United signed Leny Yoro from LOSC Lille in a hefty £52 million deal last month.
Erik ten Hag named him in the starting line-up in the club’s first pre-season tour game in the United States.
Yoro was unfortunately forced off injured in the first half of their 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in Los Angeles on Saturday.
The 18-year-old was spotted on crutches and wearing a protective boot.
The Daily Mail claims Yoro has suffered a broken metatarsal and could be sidelined for up to two months.
This would be a considerable blow to Ten Hag’s defensive plans ahead of the crucial 2024/25 season.
United should move swiftly for Matthijs de Ligt now
Yoro’s injury leaves United in a precarious position.
The Red Devils will kick off their new campaign by locking horns with Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 10.
They are scheduled to face Fulham six days later in their opening fixture of the new Premier League season.
With the transfer window still open, the club may accelerate their pursuit of another central defender.
Matthijs de Ligt is a top target for United. Ten Hag has also confirmed the club’s interest in signing the Dutch international.
Bringing in De Ligt alongside Yoro, Martinez and Maguire would give United a formidable mix of youth and experience.
Jonny Evans remains a savvy emergency option.
Victor Lindelof is in the final year of his contract at United and could be sold this summer.
