Man United star Noussair Mazraoui scores stunning goal from left-back for Morocco vs Gabon

Manchester United star Noussair Mazraoui delivered a standout performance for Morocco as they secured a 2-0 victory over Gabon in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Mazraoui started at left-back despite Achraf Hakimi being unavailable through injury.

The 28-year-old made his mark in spectacular fashion by netting the opening goal of the contest from outside the box.

After receiving the ball from Nayef Aguerd, Mazraoui spun away from his marker, created room for the shot and unleashed a powerful effort towards goal.

There was an element of fortune involved, however, as the Gabonese goalkeeper arguably should have done better to keep the effort out.

Mazraoui was equally impressive defensively, making five defensive contributions and winning both of his attempted tackles during his 84 minutes on the pitch.

He was also highly efficient in possession, completing 96% of his passes and making three interceptions.

United head coach Michael Carrick will be delighted to see Mazraoui thriving at left-back, a position that has been a major problem area for the Red Devils.

Luke Shaw is the first-choice left-back for United but his injury record makes it difficult for the club to rely on him throughout an entire campaign.

Shaw has already missed three games this season, leaving Patrick Dorgu and Mazraoui to share the responsibility in his absence.

An ideal solution for Carrick could be to use Shaw in the Premier League due to the high intensity of the competition while rotating Dorgu and Mazraoui through Champions League and FA Cup fixtures.

Morocco will next face Lesotho in South Africa on September 29.

Carrick will hope Mazraoui can build on this impressive display and carry the same confidence into his next opportunity at left-back for United.
